the windows
The stained glass windows were all placed in the church at various times after it had been opened by Bishop Moorhouse. The memorial windows for Catherine McLeod in the chancel, made in Brussels at a cost of 10 pounds, were the first to be installed shortly after the opening of the church, then the three small windows in the apse (two of them from Brussels at a cost of one pound each) By early 1881 the large two-light window in memory of Simon Staughton with the three small round windows above and all the windows on the northern side were in the church. By late 1881 W. H. Bacchus was negotiating to have the memorial windows to his father Captain W. H. Bacchus and his sister, Eliza, placed in the southern wall. These cost twenty pounds each and were made by Ferguson and Urie, of Melbourne. Melbournes first and leading craftsmen of this art. Ferguson and Urie were also responsible for a number of other windows which had been placed in the church. Emma and Molesworth Greene's memorial windows were placed in the church in 1905 1nd 1919 and the Hopkin's window in 1938. The window in memory of Richard and Eliza Fagg was unveiled in 1968. The most recent window which is in memory Laura May Webb was installed in 2000.
Following is a brief description about each window.
Staff Captain Clive Boyer Hopkins.
Of the 14th Infantry Brigade 5th Division, A. I. F. Killed in action at Fleurbaix, France, July 20, 1916, aged 20. Window depicting St. George erected by his family and dedicated on September 25, 1938. The son of Mr and Mrs C. W. Hopkins, of Hamilton, his mother was formerly Miss Julia Mahoney, of Bacchus Marsh.
Molesworth Greene.
Died October 10, 1916, Aged 89 years. Windows depicting the resurrection were placed in the nave by Mr W. P. Greene in memory of his father, and were unveiled on January 7, 1919.
Emma Greene.
Died March 5, 1905, aged 76 years. Windows depicting Faith and Charity erected in the jubilee year of the church, 1905, by her husband Molesworth Greene.
Captain William Henry Bacchus & Eliza Bacchus.
The Crucifixion and Virgin and Child. Placed in the nave by William Henry Bacchus Of "Peerewur" Millbrook, in memory of his father (born August 12, 1782; died February 26, 1849), and sister (born June 23, 1828; died December 6, 1872). Negotiations to have windows in church in November 1881, but probably placed in Holy Trinity early 1882. Windows manufactured by Ferguson & Urie.
Richard Fagg & Eliza Fagg.
Christ and Child. Placed in chancel by Miss Maude Victoria Fagg, Mrs Lydia Ellen Brown and Mrs Esther Wells (dec) in memory of their father (died December 2, 1916, aged 69) and mother (died January 4, 1930, aged 72). Unveiled July 7, 1968. Mr Alan Sumner, designer.
Aspe.
Three quatrefoil windows bearing scroll work surrounding the letters "IHS" in the centre with alpha and omega on the two sides. Negotiations between the Church Building Committee and the manufacturers to have them put in the church were in process in 1878. Made in Brussels.
Catherine McLeod.
Formally of Talisker, died February 22, 1863, "I was a stranger and you took me in", "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord". Placed in chancel in 1877 by her daughters Mrs Marion Maclean and Miss Margaret McLeod. Windows manufactured in Brussels.
Henry George Grant.
Died May 1, 1871, aged 27 years. Grisaille window in nave, placed there by his brother, Mr W. Grant, early 1881. Window manufactured by Ferguson & Urie.
Charles Stawell Greene, Alice Fairlie Greene & Molesworth William Greene.
St. Phillip and St. John. Placed in the nave by Molesworth Greene, of "Greystones" early in 1881, in memory of his children , Charles Stawell (1855-6), Alice Fairlie (1859-60), and Molesworth William (1864-7). Windows manufactured by Ferguson & Urie.
Francis Dalton, Mary Dalton & William Dalton.
St. Andrew and St. James, major. Placed in nave early 1881 by Fanny A. Wood, in memory of her father, sister and brother. Window manufactured by Ferguson & Urie.
George Wood, Jane Wood & Elizabeth Wood.
St. Peter and St. Paul window erected by George Wood in memory of his father, mother and sister. Early 1881. Window manufactured by Ferguson & Urie.
Dr. John Grant.
Died April 30, 1856, aged 29. Grisaille window placed in nave by his brother, Mr W. Grant, early 1881. Window manufactured by Ferguson & Urie.
Simon Staughton.
The large tow - light window above the western entrance with the three small round windows above were the gift of Mr Samuel Staughton in memory of his father. The figures represent the Good Shepherd and St. John the Baptist. The small windows contain representations of the Dove, the Hand (Trinity) and Agnus Dei. Fitted early 1881. Windows manufactured by Ferguson & Urie.
St John the Baptist. Placed in the western entrance in 2000 by the Webb Family.
